Literature Text

It passed us by as any other day
The sun shone on, no more words to say
Of but one day, seven years previous,
When we sat and stared at the tv screen
In shock and horror, in mindless disbelief,
I remember thinking 'oh god' but not being able to speak
The smoke seemed to choke our voices,
Our throats convulsed with grief,
And all i can remember after, was that same mindless disbelief.
They showed the streets acloud with fear,
With crying sentinels.
They scanned the photos, the dead, the dying,
Even as we cheered those firefighters onward,
Through, the smoke, the haze, the debris filled streets,
As america mourned and fumed.
All I remember are the poems, the footage,
Bette Midler, dressed to mourn, singing high and low,
In solemn black; for those that fell below.
i remember an author's twisted grief in her words and her tune
And the silent uprising of an endless hatred,
Which even now, shocks me to the core.

To think, it started with two bangs, and now,
Seven years on,

Over two unfinished wars.

9/11.

A date we'll never forget, and yet, just a date
American settings (not ours with respect), not really anything more.
Just some thoughts on the 7th Anniversary of 9/11.
